Dry Needling

Dry needling is a therapeutic technique that involves the insertion of thin needles into the skin and underlying tissues to relieve pain, reduce muscle tension, and promote healing. Unlike acupuncture, dry needling is based on Western medical principles and targets specific trigger points in the muscles and soft tissues.
During a dry needling session, a trained practitioner inserts the needles into the trigger points, which are areas of tight or knotted muscles or tissues. The needles are left in place for a short period of time, typically around 10-30 minutes, and may be manipulated or moved slightly to enhance the therapeutic effect.
The needles used in dry needling are typically thinner than those used for injections and are often called “dry” because they do not contain any medication or fluid.
Dry needling is believed to work by stimulating the body’s natural healing processes, including the release of endorphins and the activation of the immune system. It can be used to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including back pain, neck pain, headaches, and sports injuries. It is important to ensure that the practitioner performing dry needling is trained and qualified.
If you are considering dry needling as a treatment option, speak to your healthcare provider to determine if it is appropriate for your condition and individual needs.
